Lingering

My photographic series explores my inclination towards melancholy that is rooted in the fleetingness of life perceived by me. It consists of fortuitous snapshots merging together places, animals, people and nature with a vague feeling of memory, captured over the past two years in various places. 
My images rely on an emotional response in order to make sense to the viewer. As part of my life and my creative process, doubt and uncertainty take on a key role. Instead of working against those recurring feelings, I embrace them in my photography by making them motif: hazy leaves suggests motion and blurred bones shatter the illusion of stability. Objects remain obscured as nothing but dark silhouettes against the light, and close-ups only reveal part of a story.
To fully immerse in this idea of time as an abstract concept, my chosen medium is analogue black and white film.
I captured these images for myself without a series in mind. Combined together, they intend to impart a hint of that melancholy that serves me as a mirror to reflect upon my life. May it do the same for those taking in these images - let them linger for an instant to take notice of what is.
